White Sox crushed for email gaffe in their Tony La Russa hiring announcement

The White Sox were already getting pilloried for hiring 76-year-old Tony La Russa to manage their up-and-coming roster because of his apparent aversion to the modern era of baseball. They would have been well-served to limit the public relations damage Thursday and slink out of the spotlight.

But an email to fans announcing La Russa did the opposite, increasing mockery toward the organization’s decision-making.

Chicago’s message looked fine until a closer examination of the signature included above La Russa’s name. Is that … A.J. Hinch? Yes, yes it is. The White Sox’s reported second choice for the job, passed over in favor of La Russa, had what looks like his signature accidentally included in the email.

The mistake has since been corrected.
