When did your city win its last pro sports championship?
The first professional sports championship since February was awarded in Canada to a team from Florida.
The Tampa Bay Lightning won the 2020 Stanley Cup championship, the franchise’s second overall, by defeating the Dallas Stars in six games in the Stanley Cup Final. The series played entirely in the NHL’s “bubble” in Edmonton because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
This is the first championship for the Tampa Bay-St. Petersburg area since the Lightning won the Cup in 2004.
Now, it’s on to the NBA and MLB champs. Both leagues have made similar bubble arrangements, with the NBA playing its Finals outside Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and MLB set to host the 2020 World Series in Arlington, Texas.
