49ers tight end George Kittle suffered a foot injury in the second half of the team’s Week 8 game against the Seahawks. He did not return.
Kittle headed to the locker room shortly after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo left the game with an ankle injury. Initial X-rays on Kittle’s foot/ankle didn’t reveal a fracture, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and Kittle will undergo additional tests on Monday.
Kittle limped to the sideline after making a 25-yard reception on a pass from backup quarterback Nick Mullens. It appeared he may have turned his foot or ankle awkwardly as he came down with the ball.
The 49ers were in the midst of being blown out by the Seahawks in an eventual 37-27 loss, which made immediate returns by both players less relevant. More important for San Francisco, it plays again Thursday against the Packers, which means recovery time for the Niners’ two most important offensive players will be limited.
Kittle played with a broken bone in his left ankle last season. He suffered the injury in Week 9 but finished that game. He wouldn’t return to action until Week 12 once the injury was fully diagnosed.
He had two catches for 39 yards before exiting Sunday’s game.
