Deshaun Watson calls off fans who gathered to protest Texans’ treatment of QB

Texans fans are devoted to Deshaun Watson.

And as such they are, presumably, on edge as rumors swirl about the franchise quarterback’s future in Houston. That future appears more likely to take place with any team but the Texans, with reports of a growing rift between Watson and Houston brass growing wider.

Those reports spurred the Houston faithful to take action: On Monday, a group of diehard fans decided to gather at NRG Stadium and march for Watson, in support of the quarterback in light of the team’s treatment of him.

The Houston QB, though, is ever aware of the current, y’know, global pandemic currently happening in the country. He urged the fans to disband and head home, hoping to protect them from illness (and also potential heartbreak).

“I’m hearing there is a march planned on my behalf in Houston today,” Watson tweeted. “Although I am humbled I ask that whoever is organizing the march cancel for the sake of public safety. Covid is spreading at a high rate & I don’t want any fans to unnecessarily expose themselves to infection.”

Speaking of diseases, the Houston front office apparently is fighting a bit of one, considering owner Cal McNair has supposedly hitched his wagon to mysterious front office guy Jack Easterby to try and right the Texans ship, a move that has been seen as questionable at best and horrifying at worst by various NFL personalities, including former Texan standout Andre Johnson.

While rumors currently peg the Panthers, Dolphins and Jets are potential trade partners for Watson, there’s no denying the Texans would prefer to keep the superstar QB around. But if Houston decides to part with him, expect a much less peaceful protest the next time around.
